THANKSGIVING BLESSING BOXES

November 17th,   11AM  -  2PM

Wow, hard to believe it's getting to be that time of the year again!  Our annual Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes event is quite an undertaking. There will be many moving parts and we NEED your help!  We need volunteers of all shapes and sizes, contact us for more information on how to get involved.

Citychurch's first Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes event happened in 2009.  We started by providing boxes to ten families. We assembled the boxes in our living room that first year. With each year this event has grown! Eventually we had so many boxes and volunteers that we began renting the rec. center to host this event.  This year represents our 10th annual Thanksgiving event, and we are expecting to prepare about 300 boxes for local families in need.

Each box consists of:
1 roasting pan
1 full size frozen turkey
1 bag of potatoes
2 cans of corn
2 cans of green beans
1 bag of rice
1 bag of pinto beans
2 packets of brown gravy
1 box of stuffing
1 tray of rolls
& 1 frozen pie

We will be collecting the non-perishable food items and monetary donations, loading trailers, planning delivery routes and much more. On Saturday morning we will meet at Old Settlers to pack and deliver the Thanksgiving Boxes. Last year the turnout was simply incredible, and we expect the same this year.

“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thanksgiving Crowd

The story of our Thanksgiving Blessing boxes began in 2009. It started when a family friend donated some frozen turkeys to our ministry, which at the time was in its infancy. We made a plan to box up and deliver the turkeys along with a few other thanksgiving items. A few families came together and prepared 10 boxes in our living room that year. We took the boxes out to local families that we had been working with.

For the next few years we grew the Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes event at a healthy pace. Our second year we delivered around 20 boxes. The third year we began using the warehouse that would eventually become Citychurch to prepare the boxes. This was all before Citychurch had a building or held weekly services. This was just a group of determined believers.

2013 was the year that really set the tone for what Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes has become. That year we had grown to about 100 families that we were preparing boxes for. The event had grown to a point where an assembly line became necessary. We started seeing volunteers from a bunch of different churches come together. This is where the vision started to really blossom.

The next year we continued to grow, not only in the number of families served but also in volunteers who wanted to help pack and deliver the boxes. It became clear that the event would need to change venues if we planned on growing any further. In 2015 we started hosting the Thanksgiving Blessing Boxes event at Old Settlers Rec. Center.  That is where we find ourselves now. We started with 10 boxes in a living room, and now we are looking to prepare Thanksgiving boxes for 300 families. The event that started in our home now barely fits inside the rec. center.  We expect well over 100 volunteers at this years event, so make sure to register!
