Why Is It Called Citychurch?

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

I was asked on more than one occasion why we call ourselves Citychurch. Many people look at what we do and don't see a church. It all boils down to one of my least favorite words "tradition." The name Citychurch needs to be taken extremely literally. We see so many different congregations, different denominations, different traditions, and we wonder why there is so much focus on minute differences? Why, if we all believe in Jesus Christ as the risen Savior, are we not working together to tell others about our Savior? Citychurch is just that, a church of the city. We do what we believe the church should be doing, and we welcome anybody who wants to join. Our mission is to reach the unreached, the hungry, the tired, the poor, the sick, and the children who are slipping through the cracks. We want to make McKinney, our CITY, so on fire for the Lord that people can't help but feel the love of God!

Citychurch is an all-volunteer youth/children’s outreach ministry established in McKinney to reach the children and families of the city's less-privileged East side. We work closely with churches, businesses, and other organizations to find and meet the needs of those children and families. We have found that the best way to reach people and tend to their spiritual needs is to first meet their physical needs. Our method is simple, we spend our time connecting with the East side residents and building relationships. We have been active on McKinney's East side for over five years now. In five years I have learned one thing about evangelism and service in the "hood", and that is this: to reach those who society has forgotten you must get involved, often. So many have come to the East side and served diligently for days and even weeks at a time, but eventually they go back to their own churches and comfort zones. Not to diminish the efforts of others, quite the contrary, we love to encourage the efforts of all who seek to share God's love to the East side! But a day of service can be easily forgotten when some of those people are struggling simply to survive each day. It takes a continual presence, fulfillment of needs, diligent prayer, and persistence in evangelism to reach those who have the greatest need.

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
